STALEMATE
Jamiry Sun, one of the oldest and most influential planets in the Protectorate, experienced the fu might of the Empire's revenge. Using
its secret weapon, the Star Sword, the Empire blew up the entire word in a singe devastating attack. With the destruction came an ultimatum
to the Protectorate, to either immediately acknowledge the Empire's supreme power, or suffer the annihilation of a core words.
Seized by fear the Protectorate unleashed its own secret super weapon, the Cloud. The Cloud was a huge cluster of microscopic machines that
could absorb energy and release it in one massive burst. With enough stored energy this burst could destroy an entire planet.
The Cloud released its burst of energy in the orbit of the Empire's capita, Polaris Prime. The energy burst utterly destroyed the nearest moon,
the debris from which slammed into Polaris Prime and caused massive destruction the likes of which the Empire had never suffered before.
After the unveiling of these super-weapons it was clear to both sides that each had the power to destroy the other entirely if war continued.
The Empire and the Protectorate agreed an unofficial ceasefire and neither side used their super-weapons.
THE NETWORK
To improve the safety and efficiency of jumping through space the United Earth Government sent fleets of unmanned drone ships into the furthest
reaches of the universe. Upon reaching their destinations, these drones deployed specially constructed beacons that constantly sent out
tracking signals across space. A ship preparing to jump could then use the signals from several beacons to guarantee the accuracy of its
own position and destination. With this development jumps were no longer dangerous affairs as jumping ships could always be assured to arrive
on target.
THE LOST SHIPS
Before the hyperspace beacon network was established it was up to scout ships from the Reconnaissance Corps to make uncharted leaps into the
depths of space. Without accurate co-ordinates and unreliable anti-grav drives many of these ships missed their destinations, sometimes
appearing hundreds of light years away, sometimes even further. Such ships would then be forced to try and jump back, but the odds of making
such unplanned jumps were slim. More often than not these ships were never seen again - becoming known as The Lost Ships.
UNCERTAIN PEACE
Despite the ceasefire the fighting did not end entirely. Sporadic battles still took place between Empire and Protectorate forces entrenched
on planets throughout the Dominion. For a while at least it seemed as if the wars that had ravaged so many worlds had at last ended. But the
peace was not to last.
Though neither side employed their super-weapons again, specialized assault groups on both sides engaged in commando raids, attacking key strategic
military objectives. Such raids were rare but inflicted huge damage to vital targets.
The outcome of these battles has yet to be decided. Now is the time that new commanders have come forward to take control of the might of the
Empire and the Protectorate. New and advanced fighting vehicles have emerged from the armouries of both sides ready to do battle. The war between
the two powerful rivals has yet to end. But only one side can be the victor. Who will it be?
Only you can decide as you play Robogear!
PROTECTORATE ALL-TERRAIN ATTACK WALKER "T-REX"
The most advanced and powerful fighting vehicle in the Protectorate forces is the T-Rex All-Terrain Attack Walker. Developed
for short range engagements, the T-Rex is armed with a formidable array of weaponry with which to decimate its enemies. The T-Rex was so
nicknamed by Protectorate troops for not only its resemblance to the ancient Tyrannosaurus Rex but also for the fear it induces in Empire
forces.
1. ARMAMENTS
Twin 40 mm machineguns and twin multi-purpose 240 mm rocket launchers. The T-Rex arsenal has been developed to ensure that no conventional fighting
vehicle in the universe can withstand a direct hit from all four of these weapons at short range.
2. PROTECTION
The T-Rex is armoured with triple layered tungsten alloy plating to repel all but the most severe of Empire attacks without
significantly reduced mobility.
3. CREW
T-Rex's are operated only by the very best Protectorate pilots, those who have proved themselves in battle already - veterans who are the
best of the best. Pilots chosen to operate the T-Rex see the role as a high honour and compete fiercely for it.
