Meanwhile, Diego’s deeds became more and more radical and with every day Emperor had less and less touch with reality corrupted by his unlimited power. Emperor Diego declared about the disbandment of Empire Legion relying in all his actions on Financial Tribunal. He was reducing the number of warships, placed on the retired list battle-tried admirals depriving the most stubborn ones of the Lord title and all their investitures. Financial Tribunal was raging destroying potential opponents by Diego’s instructions – influential Lords, officials and commanders from amongst those, who “were lucky” to recognize the power of the new Emperor.

Revolts broke out in many worlds and regular units and there appeared many centers of the resistance to Emperor Diego’s “peaceful” policy. Being an adherent of inadequate responses, Diego dared use Star Rapier for quelling revolts in Frontier! And finally, he stopped paying any attention to the fact that his actions contradicted the oligarchs’ intentions.

Citizens of Polaris Empire lost all patience. The fourth year of Emperor Diego’s government was marked with “Wolf Crusade” of Lord Derrek Shamus and Lord Victor Lam against Polaris Prime. Having declared Diego “Usurper”, the Lords rallied a huge fleet under their command and broke into the very heart of the Empire. Powerful dreadnoughts of disbanded Empire Legion, the main defense of Polaris Prime, were drifting with reduced crews in the space – the decision of Financial Tribunal had doomed these ships to selling to the corporations. The fleet of Star Rapier didn’t return from just another punitive expedition, so there were nobody to stop Lord Derek and Lord Victor.

The armada dove out of the hyperspace deployed battle arrays in the orbit and landing shuttles rushed down to Polaris Prime. Diego fled and the special session of Counsel of Lords, frightened with such resolute actions, confirmed Lord Victor Lam’s appointment as the Empire Regent. At the same session, the Lords deprived Diego Kortes of the Emperor title and declared him Usurper. The government of Lord Victor Lam started – the epoch that came into history as Regency.
