This fighting machine has a unique six-legged chassis. Its high cross-country ability and maneuverability along with excellent roadability
made it the most popular vehicle for small in numbers raid groups. Spider is effective against both armored vehicles and infantry units.
This is an ordinary walking tank of an uncommon design. The unique six-legged chassis provides Spider very high mobility and stability even
better than caterpillar machines have. Nobody has ever heard about a fallen Spider. Spider is relatively armored, but its weapons complex
is beyond any praises – without entering any risky experiments, designers equipped the spidery walking tank with a new modification of the
widely spread twin automatic cannons, which showed itself well during the war. To fight infantry Spider received a light double-barreled
machine-gun. On the whole, Spider appeared a very successful machine and became one of the main participants of the Raid War. Its size,
damage firmness in combination with good firepower made Spider the favorite walking tank of raid groups. The pre-production model of Spider
was delivered on Velian when the battle was already in full swing and was supposed to take part in the dismally renown “underground” attack
of the units under the command of Lady Agatha. But a whole series of organization mistakes and poor planning didn’t allow Spider’s debut to
take place. Nevertheless the tank took part in some unimportant episodes of the battle.
The armament of the ordinary walking tank Spider:
-- Twin automatic armor-piercing cannon of 56 mm caliber ATC-56X2, developed by the Empire Main Artillery Office. In contrast to the Protectorate
similar model, this weapon is a really effective instrument for fighting armored machines. Unfortunately, large dimensions and design features
of this cannon limited its sphere of application – it is mounted only on the Empire heavy machines
-- Two-barreled machine-gun of 5.6 mm caliber MG-546X2, developed by the Special Bureau of Heavy Equipment attached to the Empire Directorate
of Armament. Having studied the weak points of the Protectorate “Triplet” system the Empire engineers created their own, more successful
analogue. First of all, the designers rejected using the sheaf of fire – the Empire system aims the twin machine-gun at the target guided
by an ultrasonic locator. There are two modes of fire: selective – when the system requests for the pilot’s permission to hit the target
and heavy fire – when the system hits any target identified as “a stranger”.
